In what ways do you see astrology supportive to a person? Do you hold any belief in such beliefs of fate, destiny etc? If not… Do you see science as the only truth?
— Anonymous
When delving into the world of natal astrology many are overwhelmed by the complexity of a chart reading. Many often are tempted out of this complexity to pick pieces here and there (reading only the placement of one planet) and recoil in skepticism if it doesn’t fit to their liking nor self-knowledge. To really benefit from any of the wisdom you have to take in the whole picture (all signs, placements, houses, etc) which honestly takes years of study just to comprehensively understand much less chart a reading. For those who dig deep they find a mysterious accuracy in the geometries.
Astrology can provide a narrative or background to previously misunderstood or disconnected fragments, but it doesn’t pretend to reveal fate. It can point to a sense of destiny (where talents or real desires are) and it can help the willing to iron out issues by clarifying what parts of their personality may be driving them to certain tendencies but it’s not a hall pass to “being born with a bad temper” or any other lazy means of existence. Astrology informs, but it’s up to the individual how those energies are expressed.
I only believe in fate insofar as we doom or demand our lives to unfold. Sometimes it seems as if fate had a hand in the horrible end someone came to or by contrast, certain success. There’s always an element of chance at play, but sometimes to such an incredible degree that it could have happened to anyone and not necessarily by any fault or intention of their own. Yet, we do have a hand in how things circulate in our life as action, mindset, and belief pushes and pulls us through an ocean of potentiality. Why is it that some people seem to be constantly trapped in a downward spiral when others serendipitously find those synchronicities that brings them into a deeper and more fulfilling life? If we could zoom out on the timeline with full disclosure and all-access vision it would stupefy the viewer on how clear the momentum is. We create and build upon the preexisting, moment by moment. Change it possible, but we must respect the direction our lives have been heading in if we wish shift course. There isn’t always an overnight remedy.
Science was born out of the likes of astrology and alchemy. It’s immensely helpful to follow form and structure in order to reach greater heights of discovery. Science as we know it today rests squarely on the other end of the table and it’s done very well for itself. We need science. When we can build a system of laws and formulas that work anyone who takes the time to study them can explore from there. Science goes beyond culture and religion, and often where math derives, there is a universal language. Anyone with the knowledge can join the discussion as it doesn’t rely on intuition or subjective experience—these things are important to have but objective data allows a greater number of minds to contribute.
